MPT targets Belgaum market for business

The Mormugao Port Trust is now targeting Belgaum market to overcome the mining crisis that has hit Goa’s harbor.

MPT chairman P Mara Pandiyan recently led a delegation to Belgaum to invite Belgaum industry to transport its goods through the MPT.

Ban on mining operations in Goa has opened up new opportunities of developing MPT as a multi-commodity port, he told the industrialists.

The meeting was jointly organized by the MPT and the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Pandiyan informed the stakeholders that MPT has 11 berths with all kind of modern facilities, which were utilized mainly to export iron ore all these years.

BCCI president Satish Tendulkar also told the audience that Goa port is more ideal than other ports in the vicinity to enhance industrial growth of the Belgaum, the commercial and industrial hub.

The MPT chairman was accompanied by traffic managers of the port.

Top industrialists and traders from Belgaum and surrounding areas were present at the meeting.
