Parrikar-Alina betraying people: Vijay

ARVIND TENGSE, MADGAO | 01 June 2013 21:42 IST

Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai has alleged that both chief minister Manohar Parrikar and environment minister Alina Saldanha are betraying and deceiving the people on the issue of Mopa air port.

“Parrikar is demanding the impossible and Alina is demanding the unsolvable”, said Sardesai at a press conference today.

He was referring to Parrikar’s plan to request the Prime Minister to shift Dabolim naval base to Mopa and hand over Dabolim for a full-fledged civilian air port.

Alina, on the other hand, is demanding that Navy should surrender Dabolim land to the government, claiming that it has been acquired by the defence forces illegally.

According to him, the U turn taken on air port controversy is nothing but an attempt to fool the people.

He recalled the statement made by Parrikar on 18 May last year in the Assembly that the defence forces won’t give an inch of Goan land back and it is hopeless to expect Navy to quit Dabolim.

“They should take a leaf out of Fr Eremito Rebello’s book to initiate a conciliatory approach towards the Navy and hold talks for additional land for expansion of the civilian enclave”, said Sardesai.

It is just a “clever” move to blame the Congress when the demand is not met, keeping in mind the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, he observed.
