Goans Only for Dabolim have opposed air port as well as naval base in Mopa, but a model of sustainable development for the village in Pernem taluka.
The statement of chief minister Manohar Parrikar requesting the centre to shift naval base from Dabolim to Mopa has steered the agitators opposing Mopa air port.
“It is crystal clear that the chief minister has made a statement to kick the ball of Mopa air port in the court of Congress”, said Fr Eremito Rebello, the GOD convenor.
While Churchill Alemao suggests taking over land of Zuari Agro Chemicals to expand the Dabolim air port, Fr Rebello suggested that the navy should hand over little land for civilian air port.
“Take little land from the Navy and both the civilian air port and the Navy can stay together”, said Fr Rebello.
He also asked why Parrikar did not give this proposal to Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he was the prime minister if the BJP was really serious about the proposal of shifting naval base to Mopa.
Fr Rebello also said their movement to convince some ruling party ministers like Alina Saldanha or Avertano Furtado would not be extended to Delhi by approaching the central ministers.
Abhijit Prabhudesai, another leader of GOD, claimed that only seven land owners at Mopa have signed the papers to hand over their land for the air port.
The GOD now plans to shift its agitation from the South to the North by holding a meeting at Mopa.
Fr Rebello also said ‘they’ had supported the BJP during elections in order to put an end to the corruption regime of the Congress.
“Our expectations from Manohar Parrikar were high, but we are completely disappointed as the present government is changing its colours time and again”, said Fr Rebello.
