Cong should oppose CM on Navy shifting to Mopa

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 31 May 2013 17:07 IST

Adv Ramakant Khalap briefing the media

Congress leader Ramakant Khalap does not want his party colleagues to accompany chief minister Manohar Parrikar in an all-party delegation to the prime minister if the CM is planning to give a letter on shifting naval base to Mopa.

“Parrikar is on a magic trip of hoodwinking both the North and South Goa people and not actually interested in resolving the air port tangle”, he feels.

The former Mandrem MLA is strongly opposed to Goa government’s suggestion to shift naval base of Dabolim to Mopa and have exclusive civil air port at Dabolim.

He says the Congress party has taken a stand to support both the Dabolim and Mopa air ports and should stick to it.

The issue has cropped up as the agitation in Salcete and Mormugao talukas in support of Only Dabolim has pressurized the Congress MLAs as well as the BJP government to alter its stance.

“If the CM gives letter to the PM requesting to shift naval base to Mopa, I feel my party should not accompany him in the delegation”, feels Khalap.

Parrikar is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on 5 June with all-party delegation to press for Special Status for Goa as well as financial package for mining crisis.

He looks at CM’s suggestion as a mere political game as the Prime Minister would not agree to the suggestion and then the BJP would be free to blame the Congress.

It may be recalled that Parrikar, a week ago, had said that the Navy would never shift its base from Dabolim, but has now agreed to make a formal demand to shift it.

According to Khalap, Mopa would bring fortunes to the underdeveloped extreme North of the state and especially Pernem in terms of development and employment to the local youth.

When pointed out by the media persons that many politicians have bought land around Mopa, he did not deny the fact.

“Politicians across the board are involved in large scale sale of real estate all over Goa, just not at Mopa”, he observed.

However, he feels it should be controlled by bringing the law on the lines of Haryana, which he as the Law Commission chairman had suggested, and not by stalling Mopa project.

Khalap also fears that if Mopa is stalled, the small air port at Chipi in Sindhudurg – hardly 20 kms away from Mopa – could be converted into an international air port and the development would be shifted to Konkan.

He also reminded the people of Goa that Mopa was not demanded by Pernem people but has been selected by the experts after studying proposals of various places in the North and South Goa.

Dabolim and or Mopa issue is simply the bludgeoning of the people by the people for the people. People do this at the beast of their political masters and for their own survival! Contrary to this, and as usual, politicians including congressmen are seen enjoying playing ping-pong game with an issue put to birth by erstwhile congress government! The very same congressmen are now seen talking different and differing language with an eye on upcoming MP election!

All politicians are out to confuse the people on the issue of Mopa.

The fact is that all of them have supported Mopa at one time or other and specially those who are out of power now, are trying to oppose Mopa and become popular again.

They want some issue to shine and the Mopa issue has come handy to them. Just like frogs came out at the first rains and began to make 'daraum-daraum', even those who were quiet while in power, sensing this as golden opportunity to get sympathy of the people are making statements on the issue of Mopa.

Opportunists! Keep them are arm's length. They should not be allowed to shine in this struggle.

John sousa , Goa:::

If this Devils Advocate, Khalap has not already purchased a Plot in Mopa, then be assured he has been promised one ,along with Crores of Rupees to promote it.

Reading this remark from Adv Khalap one gets to understand his mind games.

Quote...."“Politicians across the board are involved in large scale **"SALE"** of real estate all over Goa, just not at Mopa”, he observed.

Note the word "SALE".

This should actually read as .."“Politicians across the board are involved in large scale **PURCHASE** of real estate all over Goa, just not at Mopa”, he observed.

Considering Adv Khalap was/is a Minister, he must be guilty of this too.....Sale & Purchase.

Well said Prabhakar baab. The typical RSS policy of confusing the people and dividing them. They are masters in spreading lies and at floating rumors. Monu is no different. Time and again he exhibits his Khaki knickers under his pants.

I choose to forgive Khalap for his Anti-Goan statement. May God bless him and enlighten him.

The statement of shifting Dabolim to Mopa should be royally ignored. If you oppose, it means you are falling prey to this statement. Needless to say, it is made to confuse and mock at everybody.
