Resign as ministers if Mopa not scrapped: Vijay

Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai has demanded that the ministers who attended the anti-Mopa rally in Margao should resign if the air port proposal is not scrapped.
Environment and forest minister Alina Saldanha and fisheries minister Avertano Furtado had attended yesterday’s anti-Mopa rally organised by Goans Only for Dabolim (GOD).
Alina is the BJP legislator while Furtado is an independent.
Among the four MLAs who were also present at the rally, two support the government – independent Velim MLA Benjamin Silva and Goa Vikas Party MLA Caetan Silva.
Speaking to the media today in this background, Vijay said the ministers should not engage themselves in double speak on the issue of Mopa air port.
“You cannot enjoy fruits of the ministerial positions and pretend opposing Mopa air port”, he said.
They should prove through action that they had attended the Lohia Maidan rally out of their own will and they are not puppets in the hands of chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
Vijay also felt that naming the new Collectorate building of Margao after late Matanhy Saldanha is just eyewash.
Following the budget announcement by Parrikar to name the Collectorate as Matanhy Saldanha complex, deputy chief minister Francis D’Souza had yesterday said all the offices would be shifted to the new complex on 30 May – Goa Statehood Day.
“If the government really respects Matanhy for his views and opinions, then Parrikar should scrap Mopa air port before 30 May and then name the complex after him”, he said.
He demanded that Parrikar should also come out clean on the issue of beef shortage since he was the advisor to the NGO, which filed petition in the high court, due to which the present situation is created.
Though Goa Meat Complex has started getting fresh beef after slaughtering it at Belgaum Slaughter House, the quantity of 36 animals is not enough to meet the requirement locally.

ALINA AND AVERTANO, DONT LISTEN TO VIJAI. NO NEED TO RESIGN. FIGHT FOR THE CAUSE WHILE YOU ARE IN THE CABINET ONCE YOU ARE OUT YOU ARE POWERLESS. CANT DO ANYTHING. IT IS EASY FOR THE DOUBLE STANDARD VIJAI TO SAY RESIGN. WHY HE DID NOT RESIGN AS CONGRESS GS WHEN CONGRESS WENT AHEAD WITH MOPA. HE IS MORE RESPONSIBLE FOR MOPA THAN PARRIKAR AND BJP AND EVEN CHURCHILL TOO. MOPA IS CONGRESS CREATION. AVERTANO AND ALINA WHEN U RESIGN U BECAME OUTSIDER. BEING INSIDE YOU CAN FIGHT A GOOD FIGHT AND WIN IT.INSIDERS HAVE MORE VALUE THAN OUTSIDERS.. KEEP SAFE DISTANCE FROM FATORDA MLA VIJAI SARDESSAI.
