Cong demands audit of BJP's fund misuse

The opposition Congress has complained to the central government authorities that Goa’s BJP government is diverting central funds and loans and misusing it for populist schemes.
Sudip Tamankar, the local Congress spokesperson, has written to the union ministry of finance as well as the Planning Commission of India in this regard.
He has also demanded immediate audit and inquiry into the financial mismanagement.
“I have made these complaints after consulting our state president Subhash Shirodkar”, Tamankar told the media persons today.
“Goa is facing a financial crunch due to illegal mining issue and has been misusing and diverting funds provided for planned development and for specific projects and schemes”, he stated in both the complaints.
Tamankar has also alleged that the diversion of funds to populist schemes is adversely affecting the development.
The populist schemes he has listed are Ladli Laxmi scheme of Rs one lakh for a girl to get married, Griha Adhar Yojana of Rs 1000 per month to the housewives and 95 per cent reduction of VAT on petrol prices in the state.
The VAT reduction on petrol has incurred huge amount of revenue loss to the state exchequer and it is not in tune with financial principles, claims Tamankar.
He has thus demanded from both the authorities – ministry of finance and the planning commission – to audit and conduct an inquiry into the misuse of funds.
In yet another letter made to union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Tamankar has alleged total failure of the state government in maintaining law and order.
While listing out several cases, he has also provided statistical data of crime, based on the information gathered through Right to Information for the period from 9 March 2012 to 30 October 2012.
It includes 25 murders, 15 robberies and dacoities, 31 rapes, 197 assaults, 141 cheating cases, 16 molestations, 148 suicides, 13 dowry deaths and 11 cases of extortions.
