Centre tells Goa to send Tiger Reserve proposal

The ball for declaring Mhadei wildlife sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve has been thrown once again in the court of Goa government.
The union ministry for environment and forest has asked Goa to send a formal proposal to declare Mhadei sanctuary as the Tiger Reserve.
Union environment and forest minister Jayanthi Natarajan said along with Goa, states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Chattisgarh have also been told to send similar proposals.
In a written reply, Natarajan told the Parliament that the proposals are on cards to declare sanctuaries of Bor and Nagzira in Maharashtra, Suhelwa in UP and Guru Ghasidas National Park in Chattisgarh as Tiger Reserves.
The reply of the central government becomes crucial in the background of a tigress being located in the Mhadei wildlife sanctuary in Goa last month.
As told by Natarajan, in-principle approval has also been granted for four Tiger Reserves in Pilibhit in UP, Ratapani in Madhya Pradesh, Sunabeda in Odisha and Mukundara Hills in Rajasthan.
In addition, she said Kudremukh wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka has also been given final approval as the Tiger Reserve.
