SEZ land only for industrial purpose: CM

The land allotted for seven Special Economic Zones, which were later scrapped due to public pressure, will be alternatively used only for industrial purpose, assures Goa government.

The issue was raised by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco in the Assembly today as there are rumours of negotiations since the same people involved in SEZ are today promoting casinos in Goa.

“The Congress brought SEZ and Casinos and they are now spreading such false rumours”, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

Both Lourenco and Mauvin Godinho however insisted on the government making its stand clear on the land issue.

The total area of seven projects is around 38.41 lakh sq mts, with five plots at Verna Industrial Estate, one at Sancoale industrial estate and the Keri plateau in Ponda taluka.

Earlier, industries minister Mahadev Naik tried to evade a straight reply, stating that the matter is presently pending before the Supreme Court.

Both the Congressmen however kept on asking how it prohibits the government from spelling out its stand.

At this, Parrikar assured that the land would not be negotiated with anybody for any other purpose but strictly for industrial purpose, provided the Supreme Court allows it.

Modi group led by Jaidev Modi was allotted three different plots, one at Sancoale and two at Verna, of around 9.60 lakh sq mts.

Similarly, K Raheja group was allotted two plots at Verna, of 14.46 lakh sq mts.

The other two plots, of 12.32 lakh and two lakh sq mts, belonged to Meditab Specialities of A N Ramanujam and Maxgrow Finlease of Sunil Bedi respectively.

As the SEZs were scrapped, the parties had approached the court since the government wanted to take the land back to the state custody.

While former Congress chief minister Digambar Kamat had scrapped the SEZs following public protests, Parrikar also took a similar stand that the land belonged to the government and not the private parties.

Don't forget to allocate /reserve a few PLOTS for, Congress MLA Babu Kavlekar ,his wife & family & all his relatives in these SEZ`s.

Some must also be reserved, for future generations of the Babu Kavlekar family tree

He has a lot if ill-earned money or corruptly earned money ,for this purpose.

Babu Kavelekar is very keen, to increase his portfolio of dis-proportionate assets. He has made this his hobby.

While many people collect Stamps or antiques as a hobby, Babu prefers dis-proportionate Assets.
