A major tragedy of derailing a train on Konkan railway route averted today early morning as a burnt motorcycle was found thrown on a track at Dicarpale, four kilometers away from Madgao railway station on Karnataka side.
The alert driver of a Ro Ro goods train spotted something burning on the track while coming out of the Sarzora tunnel and managed to stop the train before it could hit the burnt down remains of the motorcycle.
The train driver immediately alerted the Railway Police Force, who rushed to the spot at 00.30 am to clear the track.
Security along the Konkan railway track has been intensified since then.
Little before this train, a passenger train Netravati Express had passed the spot.
According to information gathered, the half-burnt motorcycle was thrown on the track outside Sarzora tunnel on Madgao side.
The train driver coming from Karnataka side spotted little fire on the track, around 35 meters away from the tunnel, and managed to stop the train before it could hit the half-burnt TVS make motorcycle.
The anti-collision device installed on the engine could alert the driver about the danger, said sources.
The railway police are now investigating, based on the chassis number of the motorcycle, also the possibility of sabotage.
Sources told goanews.com that the incidents of laying down stones on the track were noticed in the same area few days ago.
The railway patrolling in the area was thus made frequent and the patrol team had inspected the area before midnight even yesterday.
However, this mischief was done post midnight.
