Shantaram addressing Goa's mining dependents in Delhi

Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik today accused the Centrally Empowered Committee dealing with Goa’s mining, of usurping the role of the central and state governments.

As per the press note issued by AITUC Goa president Prasanna Uttagi, Naik visited the Goa Mining People’s Front at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to express his solidarity.

Naik, in his speech, also criticised Justice Shah Commission for violating the principles of natural justice as the Commission did not hear the views of mining lease holders (mine owners).

They did not even interact with the stakeholders in the mining industry like mining workers, transporters, traders and shopkeepers, observed Naik.

He however expressed hope that the Supreme Court would look at the issue of Goa’s mining ban with a human approach.

“I hope the apex court would keep in mind the implications the mining ban would have on the livelihood of the people and would not deal only with the environmental issues”, said Naik.
