A visa-on-arrival (VoA) facility for tourists will now be available at five more international airports across the country, including Dabolim air port in Goa.

A senior Tourism Ministry official said it was decided at the third inter-ministerial tourism Coordination Committee meeting to extend the facility at Goa, Trivandrum, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi airports.

The VoA facility is currently available at four other international airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

The facility is extended to citizens in 11 countries: Japan, Singapore, Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Philippines, and Indonesia.

The Tourism Ministry is pushing for a more liberal visa regime to encourage tourism.

A total of 2,107 VoAs were issued in March compared to 1,287 in the same month last year, registering a growth of 63.7 per cent.

From January to March this year, 5,744 VoAs were issued compared to 3,905 in the same period last year, showing a 47.1 per cent growth. -- BERNAMA
