Conduct fresh survey of mines for SC: GMPF

The people dependent on mining in Goa have demanded that the union government should conduct the fresh survey of mining leases, which is pre-requisite for the Supreme Court to give order in favour of the state’s marooned mining industry.

The Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) leaders told reporters in Panaji that the Supreme Court prior to lifting ban on the mining in Karnataka had ordered the union government to conduct fresh survey of the mines and categorise them in three different categories, depending on their legal status.

“It was only after the survey was conducted the apex court allowed the legal mines to start in Karnataka,” Atul Jadhav, GMPF leader told media persons.

He questioned why union government should wait for the SC order asking for the survey when Karnataka experience shows that such a process was mandatory.

“The centre rather than waiting for SC to order for fresh survey of mining leases, should conduct it suo motto and place the report before the apex court seeking immediate relief,” said Jadhav, who also heads Goa Barge (ship) Owners Association.

He suggested that the mines with perfect legal validity should be classified as A, minor violations be B and rest be under C category.

The leader recommended that the Justice M B Shah Commission report can be used as a base to conduct relevant study.

Jadhav said that if union government goes by its Karnataka experience, the mining will resume by next season, starting from September 15, 2013.

The mining activity in Goa has been on hold since September last year after the large scale allegations of illegal mining surfaced in the State.

Goa based NGO – Goa Foundation - had moved to the Supreme Court against the illegal mining.

The court has asked the Central Empowered Committee to submit its report by investigating into claims of illegal mining.

If you want mining in goa throw BJP govt out of there positions they are the culprit playing this games and especially for CM he will never favour goa mining to restart or he would have done somthing for us getin package is not a big deal first throw this BJP LED GOVT. Stoppage of mining is jst an political issues please forget the difference of BJP-CONG bcoz dis politions are of nobody they all are one mining is a buisness issue why people cant think its as a buisness of self please stop thinking dat mining is a political issue and your best and co-operation to the upliftment of ban we want storng strength and lets join hand to gather to cure dis suffering or throw this BJP-Congress out of there positions

Mining has been stopped is a blessing in disguise.

Finalize everything on the Mining issue/s before it is started again or else the People of Goa will not forgive nobody be it BJP or any one else...

e.g. Contain the Mining silt which erodes in the River's during the monsoon's and becomes a dune on the river bed esp. in River Zuari between Sridaõ and Chicalim Light House and mark the Channel in the River Zuari so that traditional Fishermen can carry out their business and make a livelihood.

Cover trucks carrying ore. Planting of ore dust reducing tree's and sprinkling of water.

All these should be borne by Mining Industry.

Impliment the measures once formulated.

Any other solutions Welcome.
