One Swedish industry gets set up in India every month, says Fredrika Ornbrant, the Indian Consul General of Sweden.

She is in Goa to attend the European Union Film Festival that began today evening at Maquinez Palace.

According to Ornbrant, the trade and commerce between the two countries has increased tremendously in last five years.

“Our perception of India that it is a poor country has changed completely”, admitted the Indian Consul General.

India today has 160 Swedish companies operating in different parts of India.

Similarly, Sweden has 70 Indian companies, she added.

While the export from Sweden to India is approximately USD 2.5 billion, the import from India is worth USD one billion, she informed the media persons.

“India has one of the best skilled personnel, especially in information technology and engineering”, said Ornbrant.

The film festival, dedicated to the theme of Women, will screen altogether 24 films from Europe, each film from one country.
