GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 April 2013 18:52 IST

Goa has two billion tonnes of iron ore reserves still left.
In last five year, 215 million tonnes of iron ore has been extracted.
It comes to 0.215 billion tonnes.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar however says the Indian Bureau of Mines has estimated the reserves to 1.2 billion tonnes.
“But my own information says that it is up to 2 billion tonnes”, reveals Parrikar.
He however told Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai that it was difficult to quantify the value of minerals.
“It depends on market forces which keep on changing”, said the chief minister.
He also clarified to Vijay’s query stating that the amount of stamp duty is not at all related to the quantity or value of iron ore.
Parrikar also made an important revelation that the stamp duty is not taken in advance.
However, he said, the lease holders have bought the stamp papers and the content on the stamp papers would be now decided.
He also provided a details break up of iron ore extraction from 2007 to 2012, till mining operations were stopped completely.
