Reverse family planning, have more children: CM

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 04 April 2013 14:01 IST

Goa is going for a unique slogan - reverse family planning and have more children.

This was echoed by chief minister Manohar Parrikar today.

“I will have to tell my health minister to reverse the trend of family planning”, he said.

One-child phenomena in the family, he cited, as one of the major reasons of having less number of students in primary education today.

Parrikar, also the education minister, said Goa will have more aged people than the youngsters in next 15 years.

Against the required fertility rate of 2.13, the chief minister said Goa has been recording consistent fertility rate of 1.72.

It means around one and a half child behind every couple of parents, which are two members.

It is a wrong trend, said Parrikar, where most of the Goans are going only for one child.
