CM & BJP MLAs distributing sanction to truck owners
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today asked the people living in mining belt to reduce their dependency on mining and instead go for alternate mode of employments.
The state government however will try to resume the mining activity this year, he added.
The mining activity in the state has been stopped since September last year after Supreme Court’s order, which is probing into the illegal mining.
“We want to start the mining from this year itself. The new bench of Supreme Court will hear Goa’s case by April end,” Parrikar told the people dependent on mining activity.
The chief minister was speaking during the distribution of sanction letters for the truck owners, who are benefitted under the government scheme providing them financial help to tide over the current mine-ban crisis they are facing.
In the meantime, we want to start exporting the iron ore dumps (rejected iron ore which is piled up in and around mining leases), Parrikar said.
The chief minister also appealed to the people to reduce their dependency on the mining activity by involving themselves in the farming and dairy activity, which is supported by the state government through various schemes.
“If I tell you the schemes provided for farming and dairy activity, then you will faint. We have paid farmers under various schemes,” he added.
Parrikar said that the people should go back to their fields, which can be alternate employment avenue for them.
The state government today distributed 100 sanction letters to the truck owners, who will earn Rs 8000 to Rs 12,000 per month.
