No big industry in 1 Yr, but more Goan workers

Hardly one big industry has come up in Goa in last one year, while most of the industries are micro industries and few of them small scale.
The information supplied by industries minister Mahadev Naik reveals that only one big industry has come up in Goa since March last year, when the new BJP-led government took over.
Most of the workers employed in these industries however are Goans, with only 40 per cent non-Goans working in these industries.
Replying to a starred question asked by Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane, the industries minister stated that the 61 industries have employed 510 Goans and 320 non-Goans.
But only one among it is a large scale industry – TCPL packaging Ltd – commissioned at Kundai industrial estate.
The factory worth Rs 12 Crore manufactures paper board boxes and fibre board containers, employing only 94 persons.
48 among them are Goans while 26 are non-Goans.
The only industries employing comparatively large number of workers belong to the service sector, related to automobiles.
The Counto Automobiles Pvt Ltd at Porvorim has employed 133 workers, including 126 Goans.
Similarly, the Chowgule Industries Pvt Ltd, which repairs motor vehicles, has employed 94 workers, including 90 Goans.
35 among these 61 industries are micro industries, five among which belong to service industry.
The 30 micro industries – almost half of total 61 industries – however employ only 185 workers or 23 per cent.
Goans employed in these micro industries however are 129 while only 56 are non-Goans.
Goa has started almost 13 industries belonging to service sector, employing 169 workers, which comprises 20 per cent of the total workforce.
There are 17 small industries started since March last year, employing 402 workers including 207 Goans and 195 non-Goans.
It comprises almost half of the total workforce – 48 per cent.
In fact there are almost 23 industries – more than a half – which have not employed a single non-Goan. Almost 189 Goans work there.
Contrary to this, there are only three industries which have not employed a single Goan. But the non-Goan employees working here are only 13.
