Konkani Bhasha Mandal has congratulated chief minister Manohar Parrikar for delivering the budget speech in the official language - Konkani.
“The CM has won the hearts of the Goans by presenting the budget in Konkani”, said Chetan Acharya, president of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal.
In the 50 years of history of the Goa assembly, it is for the first time that the budget speech has been delivered in the official language.
The KBM also said that the trend was set by Speaker Rajendra Alrekar by conducting proceedings in Konkani by introducing the official terminology and Parrikar has followed his footsteps.
The KBM has also congratulated Parrikar for reiterating that he would not touch the Official Language Act and issuing orders to all government and other departments to use the official language on notice boards.
Acharya has also thanked Parrikar for announcing grants to Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa’s premiere institution working in the field of Konkani language, culture, literature and education for the past 50 years.
Mandal has also congratulated the CM for announcing substantial financial grants to pre-primary and primary schools running in regional languages.
Mandal hopes that the CM will also come to an amicable solution to the issue of medium of instruction agreeable to all.
