"I don't support mine owners:" CM; mum over recovery

“I don’t support mine owners, but I cannot punish the common man for what they have done to Goa.”
This is the way chief minister Manohar Parrikar justified all his actions, from stopping mining to providing financial assistance to the mining-dependent people.
While replying to the three-day general debate on the budget he presented on Monday, Parrikar also came down once again on the green activists fighting illegal mining.
He alleged that the environmentalists are unaware of the ground realities in the mining belt.
“What to do if not to support the people who have lost their livelihood because mining has stopped”, asked the chief minister.
Parrikar also clarified that he has not given any doles to anybody in the mining belt but has helped the affected the people to stabilize in their life.
He also asserted once again that mining is required for the development of the state.
Goa has earned thousands of crores of rupees from the mining industry and most of our developmental works have been carried out with these funds, pointed out Parrikar.
Though some MLAs including his party colleague Vishnu Wagh had demanded that at least half of the money be recovered from the mine owners, Parrikar however did not utter a single word in this regard.
