Beer to be 'hot' in Goa now

Beer will now cost more in Goa, for the tourists as well as the locals.
The Goa budget presented by chief minister Manohar Parrikar in the Assembly today has hiked both the VAT as well as entry tax on empty beer bottles to 12.5 per cent.
The hike would also be made applicable to other empty glass bottles of other like products like beer.
The budget has also proposed to increase the excise duty marginally on IMFL liquor and beer, but not the milk punch and wine, both manufactures in Goa and imported.
The government would now also make it compulsory to print MRP (maximum retail price) on the beer bottle, including the value of refundable bottle deposit.
According to Parrikar, this would encourage the consumer to return the bottle rather than strewing it around.
The manufacturer would also be able to reuse the bottle, feels the chief minister.
