Take over mining-dependents' loans: Cong

Congress has demanded that state government should take over the loans of truckers, machinery operators and barge owners, who are affected by current shut-down of mining sector, through Economic Development Corporation (EDC), a state-run body.

"There are huge loan liabilities of truck owners, barge operators and mining machinery operators with the nationalised and cooperative banks. Goa government should transfer them to EDC," party spokesperson Sudip Tamankar said. 

 

The banks had restructured these loans, giving one year to the debtors to start repaying. "One year's time is lapsing now....EDC should take over the loans," he said. 

Once the mining activity resumes in the state -- currently Supreme Court has ordered a suspension -- EDC can recover the money from original debtors, he said. 

Tamankar also said the money collected through stamp duty on mining license renewing should be used for those affected by suspension of mining activity. 

"Government should not divert the Rs 200 crore which they have collected from stamp duty to other projects," he said. 

The Congress spokesperson also said the Centre could not help those dependent on mining until the state government started rehabilitating them.

Goa has gone down hill just because of Congress culture; which is "I am for myself and God for others". Can the Congress explain why the tax payer should bail out the people who were fleecing Goa all these years. Particularly the Barge Owners, the so called Mine Owners(who are in fact leases)Truck owners who own more than one truck and all of whom contributed for polluting Goa and putting the health of law abiding citizens at risk ? Can the Congress spokesperson Mr.Sudip Tamanker tell me and all other Goans if these guys who he is fighting for, ever shared their booty with the tax payers when they were making profits ? I know for sure that these barges who ply to carry ore from the mines to Mormugao Port have destroyed the bunds (water barriers) constructed by the hard work of the gaukars of the Communidades thereby destroying the agriculture(rice production) ,due to saline waters entering their fields. The barge owners are the law to themselves. Has any of them including the President of the barge owners at anytime helped anybody or any Goan ?

These are the very people who finance corrupt politicians to get their way through who are responsible for all the mess which is prevailing in Goa. All people who venture into the business should know that entering into any business is a risk and they should be prepared for it.

I strongly refute the statement made by Sudin Tamanker as he got no foresight to resolve the problems facing all Goans and this shows he is unfit to enter politics. I hope that Goans will teach Congress Party a lesson once again in the coming Lok Sabha elections by not electing any of their candidates.
