NCP wants Rane, Digambar to be arrested
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 07 March 2013 15:01 IST

The Nationalist Congress Party has demanded that two former Congress chief ministers – Pratapsing Rane and Digambar Kamat – be arrested, if there is proof of their involvement in the illegal mining scam.
“Why is chief minister Manohar Parrikar going back on his announcement to file FIR against them as well as others involved in the mining scam”, asks Goa’s NCP spokesperson Trajano D’Mello.
Trajano basically had a press conference to list out Parrikar government’s failures in last one year.
Parrikar would complete one year of his governance on 9 March.
When Trajano said Parrikar had failed in fulfilling his promise of putting behind the bar all those involved in mining scam, media persons asked him whether he wants Parrikar to fulfill his promise.
“Why not, if there is proof. But show the proof”, he quipped.
Trajano also accused Parrikar of abetting corruption in the state.
Stating that he rode on anti-corruption wave after exposing several corrupt acts of the previous Congress government by taking help of Right to Information Act, the NCP spokesperson pointed out that RTI Commission is today non-functional.
Neither the chief information commissioner nor the information commissioner has been appointed till date, for the reasons best known to the chief minister.
“Does not this become abetment to corruption”, asked Trajano.
The man who spoke of zero tolerance to corruption, said Trajano, has today lost sense of corruption.
Trajano also accused Parrikar of misguiding the mining-dependent people, due to which they have been attacking RTI activists for illegal mining.
The law and order has completely collapsed in the state, due to which people have been taking law in their hands, he said.
He was referring to Harmal villagers bashing up one person, thinking that he was Ranjit Tuenkar, who murdered one girl at Assagao hill and is still absconding.
