Mining dependents attack RTI activists in Margao

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 02 March 2013 21:46 IST

Furious crowd of mining dependents in Margao

Margao became tense today evening as mining-dependent people chased the activists who are fighting illegal mining and stopped their programme on Shah Commission report.

The mob of around 200 mining-dependent people stopped the programme amidst slogan shouting.

They entered the small hall at CD Blue Chip and created chaos. The hall can accommodate hardly 30 people.

Police however controlled the situation and rescued the activists from the hall.

The meeting, organised by the Goa RTI Forum was later cancelled to avoid law and order situation.

Forum secretary Shrikant Barve said the programme was organised to get educated on the Shah Commission report from two experts who have studied it - Bhushan Bhave and Ramesh Gawas.

The furious crowd shouted slogan against the activists and even booed them away.

One protestor even threw a water bottle at the activists, which fell on a head of a policeman.

Ashok Karpe, one of the mining dependent, said they had come to the hall since they feel that the issue should be discussed also with them.

Jawahar Dias, one of the RTI activist, however felt that this was not a manner in which the civilised society should function.

"We had gathered to know the facts in Shah Commission report, not to support or oppose any particular industry", he clarified.

Sameer Kurdikar, another mining dependent, asked the media persons why the government is not arresting the accused in the illegal mining scam and seize their treasury which they have filled by looting illegally.

However, he could not tell why they have targeted the RTI activists to meet this demand.

bhushan , panaji:::

Yiu are absolutely correct.

The same is with the case of Moti Dongor.

Goa Govt. was fast asleep, until an Advocate filed a PIL in Court.

Goa Govt, Headed by a Fox,now wants to find ways to circumvent illegalities.

Why not re-settle all the migrants in Mopa?

The migrants could then defecate in the open to let Tourists know they have finally arrived/touched down in Parrikars Goa.

@Laxman, Congress govt fell down because of public awareness campaign of RTI activist and NGO's. They relentlessly campaigned that take money from the corrupt if you cant resist but dont vote him. Otherwise bjp had no chance to fight congress moneybags. As far as the person on whose behalf you are writing, kindly note that you are barking at the wrong tree. your master has sold his soul to the mining lobby and on their behast he is orchestring fascist state sponsored riots when he and he alone is responsible for this mining blunder. In fact court banned mining in goa upon oral request of Goa Govt Lawyer. And now you fellows are trying to divert the frustruation of mining affacted people towards the NGO's whose only concern is a better future for Goa.

Laxman, I do not think you are in touch with the reality. Check the track record and you would find that NGOs like Goa Foundation have been active for over last 20 years.

And what are you talking about paid activism? BJP has pioneered this concept through their ' cultural' organizations like Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini and educational institutes like Vidya Prabodhini. These are the training grounds for activists who are either absorbed in jobs at Sangh parivar run institutions or are helped to set up their own businesses. These loyal activists keep barking against all their opponents through the new media channels. Take a look at wall like goaspeak and if you are smart enough to read between the lines you will get a good idea of these newly emerged 'Bhajani Mandals', as they are called. Most are assigned the roles of researching websites and posting the RSS view wherever they feel threatened.

Earlier, during the previous generations only high caste were seen playing that role but now even people from Bahujan Samaj are also roped in for the propaganda . You will find greedy people in every community ready to sell their souls and play the role of pimps for the power and money.

But please, before accusing others, apne girebaan ,ein jara zhaankiye....

LAXMAN , VASCO:::

That is not true.

The fact of the matter is that you were fast asleep or just learnt to read!!

where was ALL RTI ACTIVISTS DURING CONGRESS REGIME I THINK SO THEY WERE PAID SALARY BY GOVT TO KEEP QUIET

When the home minister of a state joins hands with miners and uses jingoism of the paid mob to silence RTI activists, it proves that Goa is not at all in safe hands. This state sponsored terrorism, backed by the money of those who amassed wealth by looting Goa is the biggest danger to the civil society.

I appeal to all those Goans who have not surrendered their soul to protest against such tactics of Shri Parrikar, inspired by his predecessor Salazar.

Please note the chronology of events:

1. Goa Foundation challenges Goa Govt.'s stance in the Supreme Court.

2. Parrikar and Audhut Timblo seen shaking hands at a party thrown by Timblos.

3. Parrikar claims of receiving a feedback that Claude's life could be in danger.

4. Mob attacks a meeting of RTI activists.

Why is everyone silent about this? Will you wake up when these paid goons who anyway get unemployment dole for their 'taproom' activities knock on your door?

Parrikar... Fotkirem tujem Sorkar.

The mob at margoa are being brought to threaten the RTI activist. The poice will not book any complaint on the person who have thrown bottleon the head of police as reported in the media.

No doubt Mr Parrikar & the BJP instigated this confrontation.

Parrkars ego has been dented

Mr Parrikar did mention recently, that there will be agitations & suicides.
