Mining grants can't reflect in union budget

North Goa MP Francisco Sardinha

South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha feels that issues like giving special grants to Goa due to mining crisis cannot reflect in the union budget.

The mining-dependent industry and trade representatives as well as workers had met prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh to provide special grants to Goa to overcome the mining crisis.

An initiative in this regard was taken by union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar last month.

When asked why the central government did not announce any special grants in the budget presented on 28 February, Sardinha felt that such kind of crisis is an exception and cannot reflect in the budget.

He also said he is prepared to take the representatives once again to Chidambaram to press for Goa's demand.

He also said that the union budget is a balanced exercise, focusing on the upliftment of the poor while also taking firm measures to take the Indian economy ahead as a leading country in the world.
