Petrol hiked by Rs 1.40 in 13 days

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 01 March 2013 20:20 IST

Petrol price has increased once again, now by Rs 1.40. It will however cost only Rs 58.42 in Goa, compared to prices over Rs 75 in rest of India.

It was made applicable from Friday midnight.

This is the second biggest increase in last 13 days.

The central government presented its budget on Thursday and the petrol price has increased just the next day.

The last rise was on 16th of February.

Soon after the announcement, people in Goa lined up at the petrol pumps to fill their tanks.

The price has increased because of two factors: the international price of a petrol barrel has increased from 128.57 dollars to 131 dollars and the rupee has depreciated from 53.43 to 54.15 against the dollar.

Goans however are the only Indians hit less by petrol price since the VAT on petrol is almost nil.

In Delhi, petrol would now cost Rs 70.74 and Rs 77.66 in Mumbai

In Goa, however, petrol would now cost only Rs 58 .42.
