Bharat Bandh evokes poor response in Goa

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 20 February 2013 20:55 IST

Unlike rest of the country, Bharat Bandh evoked poor response in Goa, except from bank and postal employees.

In spite of KTC workers not attending duties, the private as well as Kadamba buses plied as usual.

Even most of the establishments, barring few big industries, functioned without any trouble.

Around 2000 workers however marched in Panaji city and had a public meeting in protest of central government’s anti-people policies.

Almost all the nationalised banks remained closed throughout the day.

Postal employees in fact had dharna in front of post offices in most of the cities.

The KTC managed to pull up other staff to ply buses on most of the major routes.

"The labour union is on strike, but we have managed to run all the buses with the available staff. The services are not affected," KTCL Managing Director Deryk Natto said.

The markets and all other activities were totally unaffected.
