It’s official. Former minister Nilkanth Halarnkar is the new Goa president of the Nationalist Congress Party.

And Yuri Alemao, son of Congressman Joaquim Alemao, is the youth wing president for Goa.

This was announced at a party convention in Porvorim today attended by party supremo Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel.

Both of them were later felicitated at the hands of Pawar.

Pawar has also elevated outgoing president Prof Surendra Sirsat as a national secretary of the party, posing more confidence in him.

Similarly, Tanveer Khatib, the outgoing youth president, has been absorbed as a national secretary of the NCP’s youth wing.

The whole exercise of revitalising the party organisation learnt to have been to get North Goa seat for NCP in the forthcoming Parliament election.
