No central package for mining compensation

PTI, PANAJI | 03 November 2012 20:31 IST

Union Heavy Industries Minister Prafulla Patel today refused any possibility of centre helping out the people affected with the mining halt by offering the financial package.

“Centre can offer financial package for specific projects like infrastructure development. But if state faces financial crunch it cannot be helped,” he told reporters in Goa ruling out the possibility of financial package to the people affected due to the mining halt.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar recently had hinted of taking all party delegation in Delhi to seek for central financial assistance for the people affected with mining halt.

Patel alleged that current BJP regime in Goa has not done enough to bring amicable solution for this vexatious problem. “My request to government of Goa is that they should take up the matter with the apex court to find the solution,” he said.

“I was told that Goa government is in deep financial crisis making it difficult to pay even salaries of the government servants,” the minister added.

Patel said that the NCP has already taken up the issue of restarting of mining in Goa with the union mines ministry and ministry of environment and forest. “Some issues need to be taken up state government also. Parrikar government cannot absolve itself from the responsibility,” he commented.

Speaking about Justice M B Shah commission report, which had pointed out to the illegal mining in Goa, Patel said “Shah commission report needs to be properly discussed. The commission’s report was never discussed or debated in the Parliament.”

The minister also ruled out the possibility of nationalization of mining activities in the state, which has been a demand of various labour unions.

Supreme Court in its verdict last month has ordered halt of the transportation and extraction of iron ore in the state, pending report from the Centrally Empowered Committee (CEC).

He says this and wants that North Goa Parliamentary seat should be allotted to the NCP.

If you cannot do anything for Goa, NCP or Congress should not dream of winning this seat ever again.

Praful Patel another corrupt, incompetent guy who as a responsible minister should have found the facts before jumping to a gun by passing comments such as “I was told that Goa government is in deep financial crisis making it difficult to pay even salaries of the government servants,”.

The serious damage he has done to Air India, Indian Airlines, Football Federation is well-knows. His daughter is raking in millions from IPL through his influence. What a jerk!
