Recover Rs 35,000 Cr & compensate us: Truck owners

Affecting mining truck owners have demanded that Goa government should recover RS 35,000 crore from the mine owners and invest into mining belt for the welfare of affected people.

Prakash Raut Desai, president of South Goa Mining Truck Owners’ Association, has also blamed the government for creating the chaos in the mining industry.

While speaking at a debate organised by HCN channel, Desai said the rampant illegal mining had adverse impact in the mining belt since even legal mining has now been stopped.

“We demand that legal mining be started immediately as the season begins in October. If not, people would be starved to death”, he pointed out.

Desai said chief minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to settle the financial liability of truck owners with the respective banks but has done nothing beyond it.

He admitted that the problem has been created due to increasing illegalities in the mining industry due to which hard working truck owners had to suffer.

“How will we know which is legal and which is illegal mining”, he asked Rupesh Samant, a journalist who conducted the debate.

He also claimed that neither the government nor the mine owners gave them ear when they pointed out at illegalities which they observed.

Desai also admitted that the solution for the problem is not to attack the NGOs fighting illegal mining or the journalists but to compensate the people who would suffer due to complete suspension of mining operation.

The debate was organised in the background of the truck owners attaching a group of journalists at Curpem mine in Sanguem taluka few days ago during their field visit to the mines.

Sanjay Dhawalikar, editor of Dainik Herald, during the debate said it was duty of the journalists to highlight the illegalities but agreed that the affected people should be compensated.

He however cautioned that the compensation should not benefit those who have minted money by owning many trucks but only the genuine affected truck owners.

“No truck owner should be compensated for more than two trucks”, opined Desai in response.

jaret de silva...Like in un-governable Afganistan or Haiti or Columbia or Mexico,there are new" War Lords" appearing in Goa.

These guys are like the Drug Cartels all over the world.

There were 4, "War Lords" in Varca.Goans have put them to sleep for the moment & shown them their rightful place.

They were in London recently,concealing their illegal wealth,before the Lokayukta comes into force.

Now the new & current "kids on the Block" are Sudip Tamankar, Prakash Raut Desai, Yugank Naik,Francisco Sardinha, Reginald Lourenco,Vijay Sardessai,Naguesh Karmali(aiming to be the conqueror of Tibet) & Vishu Wagh(Conqueror of the Colonialists).

Dont forget we had Idi Amin of Uganda, who was the "Conqueror of the British Empire & claimed to be King of Scotland.

These are the guys (Mr. Prakash & Co.) who abetted the crime and the illegalities. why should they be compensated? what have they done with all the extra/illegal money they made when this whole thing was going on? are they going to declare the extra money they made and share it accordingly? These guys should know that demanding something from the regular tax payers funds is not the correct thing and should not even dare to demand such a thing. Please count the number of innicent lives they (trucks) they have taken, plus the damage done to roads and the environment with their reckless driving in a hurry to make more trips and eventually make more money.

Mr prakash use all that money,

For all i know this could be the idea of non other than Mr. Parrikar himself......so that he can be a hero. Parrikar... you are a class act!!! Goans will have to admit that.

Ratikant , UAE... I agree .Many of the The Truck owners are actually wealthy.This will be proved when they have to disclose their holdings in their Bank Accounts or are "Means Tested".

The main reason why the Truckers are shedding Crocodile Tears is plain & simple...beacuse their "GET RICH QUICK SCHEME" has been halted.

The Goa Govt. never guaranteed them the jobs...it was the Illegal Miners.The Truck Owners should now go to the Illegal Miners with their begging caps /bowls

The Rs35 lakh crores looted or held by the Miners is an estimate.

Taxi Drivers in Goa also take out Loans to purchase their vehicles.No one has given them a guarantee of any Fare.(passengers).They have taken "calculated risks", when they took out loans.Why didn`t the Truck Owners,?

Truck and barge transporters are the partners in crime with transporting the illegal ore as they have helped the illegal mining extracts to be shipped. All the truck owners and barge owners were laughing to their bank accounts during corrupt congress regime in Goa. They should approach congress government at centre to compensate for their troubles now. Why not approach to Deshprabhu? Or Shantaram Naik? Digambar Kamat? All these years everyone was enjoying the kitty.

No payment should be made to these truck and barge owners. They are equally responsible for illegal mining. And what about this demand for compensating for two trucks? There is no charity here. They should sell their trucks or barges and pay their outstandings to the lenders.

Rs. 35,000 crores is state income and belongs to all Goans. Why pay these partners in crime?
