Assistance only to deserving truck & barge owners: CM

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has said the state government will help only those vulnerable truck and barge operators, who are in real trouble due to impact of the mining restrictions.

In an exclusive interview with HCN, Parrikar said those people whose future is bleak due to mining restrictions will be financially helped by the state government.

The chief minister has asked them to come back with the financial liabilities of different individuals in the mining sector. He meet the bank officials recently.

Parrikar said the banks have been asked to furnish the data on how much is the liability they have (from the trucks and barges), how much is their monthly installment, what is monthly interest and how many of them are single, double and multiple truck owners.

“This is pertaining to only individuals and not the mining companies because some of the loans may be of mining companies,” he clarified.

The chief minister said `once banks come out with the data, they will be requested to consider some concession to the borrowers so that the government can step in to tide over the situation.’

Assuring the financial package, Parrikar said `government will definitely consider whatever is within its might.’

“We will work out some package to those who are impacted because they are Goans and I believe that you cannot allow them to be made responsible for what was happening in the state during last government’s tenure,” he commented.

The state government, he said, can either give direct financial package or pay the money through the banks.

“But it will depend on what data bank is coming out and what is a package bank is considering and then we can work out some solution,” he added.

Mr. Ratkant and Mr. Massumo are correctly saying that TAXPAYERS money should not be wasted in this new type of subsidy or free gifts. Any businessman always has to save for rainy day and pay from such kitty to his employees. No one talks of super profits just a year back. It widely reports that truck drivers(not from Goa) made 15000 to 30000 rupee per month with all types incentives.

Truck owner driving are few and truck owners are another patrao category created. Most have made mark in local and state politics along with contractors. All noise is to dupe the banks and force coperative banks into bankrupcy.

EDC taking over loans from bans is another joke as after that there is pressure for one time settlement.

Sorry, There should'nt be any exception as all were involved in transporting illegal ore activities and abetting crime.That rescue aid should be to given to no one.

First claim and recover the entire 39000 croes back into our goan state treasury without treachery which all goans should benefit from the looted recovery or else fish that aid from your own pocket.

Goans wake up ! its our money looted by politicians and miners,lets get this done or the goverment should go. We instated this goverment because they promised the loot back, If they can't deliver what they promised then we have all the right to kick them out.

Shed sweat or blood,it is we who should have benefited or gained from the natural resources and not just a bunch of miners with a bunch of clowns(politicians).BJP quit or get 39000 croes back till than no deal,Just Seal,Pull up all poticians WHO ROBBED AND TREATED GOA LIKE A WHORE.Give Our Mother Her Justice or else ..... Parrikar,BJP GOA SE HATTO BHAAGO,GAV CHODD DOH.

This is a wrong move by our CM. it will also be a wrong precedence to pay the tax payers money to the truck owners and barge owners. The stoppage of the illigal mining is not the natural calamity that the trucks and barges have been damaged or broken and gone out of business. This is a free capitalist economy and each one starts his/her business with the self acumen and entrepreneurship. If the business goes flat it is their own problem, why should they be compensated with tax payers money? CM Can very well provide assistance to these truck and barge owners from the kitty that he recovers from the illegal mining. Or the mine owners whose mineral these transporters were transporting should provide the assistance to these people. After all, mine owners could accumulate illegal wealth with the help of these truck owners and barge owners only. How come they now seek government assistance? And why not from the mine owners?
