Tajikistan seeks India's help in mining & infra

Tajikistan President with Goa Governor, CM, Speaker & Opp Leader
Tajikistan, the country neighbouring China and Afghanistan, has appealed to India to help country in Central Asia in the field of mining and infrastructure development.
President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, who is in Goa during his visit to India, said that his country was rich in minerals and was looking forward to enhanced cooperation in the mining sector.
He met Goa governor V B Wanchoo today at Raj Bhavan along with chief minister Manohar Parrikar, opposition leader Pratapsing Rane and Speaker Rajendra Arlekar.
While appreciating India’s development in the field of infrastructure, the leader of the 7.6 million-strong populace is expecting India to develop Tajikistan in infrastructural development.
Rahmon has also expressed his desire to chalk out a common strategy to fight terrorism while calling India a ‘reliable partner’ in this area.
“Our country has been fighting the menace of terrorism and extremism for 20 years”, he observed.
The President of Tajikistan also said they have also been fighting the menace of narcotics and his country was deeply interested in ensuring enhanced cooperation with India to deal with these problems.
The other areas he is seeking co-operation of India are agriculture, tourism and health.
Governor Wanchoo responded positively, stating that Goa would like to welcome tourists form Tajikistan by establishing direct air link.
He also said India is eagerly looking forward to enhanced cooperation in developing Information Technology, in which India has made immense progress, apart from the medical field.
The meeting was followed by a state dinner hosted by the Governor in honour of the visiting President.
It was also attended by ministers from Tajikistan and Goa, besides other dignitaries.
