Govt plans a Konkani directory

As a step forward to promote the official language, Goa government is planning to publish a Konkani directory.

The announcement was made by chief minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday at a concluding function of 15-day Konkani coaching class conducted for senior IAS government officials.

Parrikar however did not elaborate what directory he plans to publish, except that he said it would be a small directory.

He however highlighted the significance of Konkani language which has a special flavour.

He favoured holding of Advance Coaching Courses in Konkani exclusively for IAS Officials to get them conversant with the Konkani language. This will help them to understand what is happening in the state in a better way, he added.

The course was organized by the Official Language Department to honour the assurance given by the Chief Minister in the budget speech.

Chief Secretary B Vijayan was also present on the occasion.

Altogether 38 officers, including 20 IAS, 5 IPS, 12 IFS and 1 IES, participated in the Konkani Learning Programme.

16 lectures were conducted by the Official Language Department.

Suresh Borkar, Priyadarshani Tadkod, Bhushan Bhave, Damodar Ghanekar and Anju Sakhardande were given mementoes as a token of appreciation for conducting the lectures.

Earlier Mohan Lal, Secretary for Official Language Department welcomed the guests.

Dr Prakash Vozrikar, Director of Official Language, compered the function.
