Vinod Phadke & panel sweeps GCA election

As expected, Vinod Phadke was today elected the new president of the Goa Cricket Association while his panel sweeping the election.

He defeated Sashikant Sardessai, who could get only two votes out of total 98 votes polled.

GCA has total 110 clubs as its members.

The election was held today after the change of political power had resulting into GCA supremo Dayanand Narvekar from the presidentship by his own supporters.

Phadke was the vice president in the Narvekar's GCA while Narvekar's nephew Prasad Fatarpekar was the general secretary.

Now, the same panel of 15 members, barring few who did not contest, has been elected once again as anti-Narvekar GCA.

Dr Shekhar Salkar, who had even announced his manifesto for the GCA, withdrew last minute from the race, pavaing way for Phadke to be the new president.

Dr Salkar, who is also part of the winnin panel for Phadke, it tipped to be the vice president.  

Terming it as an unexpected victory, Phadke said at least four members, who are not part of the panel, would be accommodated in the GCA, for the work they have done for the cricket.

It includes, he said, Fatarpekar, Sudesh Prabhudesai, Meghanath Shirodkar and Vivek Pednekar.
