Shripad to be Goa's Special Rep in Delhi

PTI, PANAJI | 13 April 2012 11:57 IST

Member of Parliament Shripad Naik has been nominated as `special representative' of Goa government in the national capital.

The appointment attains significance as the BJP MP was recently in the news when he tried to enter into the state politics ahead of the last month's Assembly poll.

Undersecretary Gurudas Pilarnkar has signed the appointment order, issued yesterday.

Naik, a senior BJP leader, was tipped to be a potential candidate for the Chief Minister's post, along with Manohar Parrikar, but the party's central leadership refused to allow Naik to contest for Goa Assembly from Povorim, saying that he was required in Delhi.

He was, however, given the responsibility to head the party's campaign. Naik has been MP from Goa thrice, and was a part of Vajpayee cabinet.
