NOCs to mining Cos now on case-to-case basis

After suspending licenses of all 460 iron-ore traders, Goa government is considering granting NOCs on case-to-case basis in order to avoid complete ceasing of the iron ore mining exports from the coastal state.
State Mines and Geology department had suspended trading permissions of all the 460 traders on Tuesday in a bid to weed out illegal mining activity from the state.
The traders are given 15-day time to respond with the proper documents so that their licenses can be restored.
Department's director Prasanna Acharya told reporters today that no objection certificates (NOCs) to export ore from the state would be meantime granted on the case-to-case basis.
He further said that the state government has taken many steps to ensure that the exports are not stopped due to ceasing of trading activity.
The Parrikar government cracked a whip on the traders after it came to light that several fly-by-night operators were being sheltered by then director of mines and geology Arvind Lolienkar, who was suspended on Monday.
"If the application for export is genuine and there is letter by mine owner certifying that the ore was from his lease, we have no hassles in granting the permission," Acharya said'
He added the letter would be cross-verified with the mine owner before allowing the shipment to sail.
He also said that entire exercise of tightening noose around traders was being conducted only to ensure that illegal ore is not shipped out of the state.
Goa has 90-odd mining leases which tapped 43 million metric tones of ore during last fiscal mopping a revenue of Rs 930 crore.
Parrikar government has vowed to put an end to the illegal mining activity in the state through regulatory measures.
