Goa growth rate declined in 1 year

Goa’s economy has declined in last one year with the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) rate has slipped by two per cent.
Goa Governor K Sankarnarayanan, while addressing the first session of the newly elected Assembly today, informed that the growth rate has declined.
“The state economy has achieved a GSDP growth rate of 8.3 per cent during 2010-11 vis-à-vis 10.6 per cent in 2009-10”, he said, while speaking on behalf of the newly constituted Manohar Parrikar government.
The governor also said that the primary sector has reported a decline of 1.46 per cent, though the secondary and service sectors have reported a rise of 6.80 per cent and 11.98 per cent respectively, at constant prices.
The state could make total tax collection of Rs 2030 crore through levy and collection of taxes on sale of goods, hospitality services, entry of good in local areas and tax on entertainment services, said Sankaranarayanan.
However, the governor expressed dissatisfaction over only 50 per cent tax collection through e-payments despite having 21 different services being made available on-line.
“My government will make efforts to realize 100 per cent taxes through e-gate”, he said.
He also assured the House that his government would try and reduce dependency on Goan economy.
“While permitting legal mining, my government is determined to crack down on the illegal mining as also the mafias involved in such illegal operations”, he said.
The governor also said his government will not allow any additional diversion of forest areas for mining and concentrate on upgradation of deforested areas.
While addressing the House on behalf of the new government, the governor assured the people of Goa that his government would denotify the Regional Plan 2021 and formulate one in due consultation with all stakeholders.
He also said his government would insist on obtaining assent of President of India to the Lokayukta Bill passed during Congress regime.
“My government will insist on processing the Lokayukta bill… so that our promise to have zero tolerance to corruption is delivered”, he said.
