Parrikar meets stakeholders for 21 March budget

CM meets agriculturists & fishermen for budgetary exercise
Within less than a fortnight, after taking over as the Goa Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar is gearing up to present the state budget on March 21.
In view of this, Parrikar has been busy drafting the budget with a series of meetings being held with stakeholders like businessmen, farmers, journalists, fishermen and other segments of the society.
The vote on account for four months will be passed on the floor of the House while discussion on the budget will be held during next session.
On Thursday, Chief minister chaired meetings of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) representatives, Farmers' clubs, Goa Union of Journalist, Goa Electronic Media Association, Fishermen Union and others ahead of the budget.
Parrikar said that majority of the suggestions given by the stakeholders will be embedded in the budget.
The preparation of budget has seen Secretariat and ministerial block abuzz with activities.
"My staff slept in the office last night," a senior officer involved in drafting of the budget said. Several government staff has been seen spending nights in the office to ensure that the budget is prepared on time.
Even Parrikar has been working for more than 12 hours in the office.
The chief minister arrives as early as 7 am in the office and is there till mid night.
"I don't get time to draft the budget because of appointments. I wake up at 5 am and sit to work on the budget," the chief minister told PTI.
Parrikar goes through each and every paragraph of the budget rather than depending on the officers to do that, a senior official said.
The BJP-led government has decided to include assurances given by the party during recently held polls in the budget.
Parrikar said most of the assurances would be fulfilled, and there will be creation of funds to implement them.
The party has assured to exempt Value Added Tax on petrol reducing the prices by Rs 11 by April 2.
The schemes like Rs 1,000 per month honorarium to housewives and increase in benefit under Dayanand Social Security Scheme (DSS) will be burdening state exchequer with Rs 550 Crore liability.
Parrikar has said that he would be opting for additional resource mobilization to mop up the revenue without taxing the common man.
