GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 09 February 2012 22:51 IST

BJP declared rest of its six candidates today, while deciding to support four independents.

The saffron party has left eight candidates for the MGP, to strike a pre-poll alliance.

Vasudev Meng Gaonkar thus became the first MLA the BJP did not give ticket to. Sanguem ticket has been given to Subhash Faldesai.

Canacona MLA Vijay Pai Khot did not get ticket since Poinguinim and Canacona have been amalgamated to make it one constituency.

Ramesh Tawadkar, former Poinguinim MLA is the BJP candidate in Canacona.

BJP also rejected the proposal of Congress rebel Naresh Sawal to contest from Bicholim as former BJP MLA Rajesh Patnekar, who had joined the Congress long ago, is the Congress candidate.

Manohar Shirodkar would now contest as the BJP candidate from Bicholim.

Rupesh Mahatme would now cross swords with chief minister Digambar Kamat in Margao.

The rest of the tickets are Nilesh Cabral (Curchorem), Ganesh Gaonkar (Sanvordem) and Kiran Kandolkar (Tivim).

The BJP has also decided to support independent candidates in Navelim, Curtorim, Velim and Cumbarjua.

The candidates BJP plans to support have however not yet been declared.
