Shripad allowed to contest Assembly poll
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 05 February 2012 13:00 IST

North Goa MP Shripad Naik will contest Goa’s Assembly election.
A formal announcement in this regard was made by BJP national president Nitin Gadkari today, while also announcing the BJP-MGP alliance.
“After discussing the issue, we thought it would be appropriate that Shripad Naik contests Goa election”, he said.
His constituency is however not yet declared since BJP has not announced a single seat till date.
However, it is clear that Shripad would contest from Porvorim.
BJP not allowing Shripad to contest Goa election had become a major debatable issue in Goa.
Shripad personally had voiced out his displeasure over the decision repeatedly.
In spite of this, Gadkari claimed that the issue was made up by the section of media, probably referring to the tussle between Manohar Parrikar and Shripad over CM’s post if the BJP comes to power.
But he admitted that Shripad came to Delhi and discussed the issue with central leaders, after which they had cleared Shripad’s name.
“It was an internal party issue of whether he should remain at the centre or come back to local politics”, said Gadkari.
The press conference was attended by both Shripad and Parrikar, besides local party chief Laxmikant Parsekar.
