Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel arrived in Goa today, to be surrounded not with party workers but veteran Congress leaders like Pratapsing & Vishwajeet Rane, Ravi Naik, Joaquim Alemao and Pandurang Madkaikar.
Patel later announced that NCP would have an alliance with the Congress and contest seven seats.
These seats include Tivim, Vasco, Mapusa, Saligao, Sanguem and Porvorim.
“Mayem or Cortalim would be decided tomorrow”, said Patel.
Congress however has already declared its candidate Caetan Xavier from Cortalim.
Visits of veteran Congress leaders became significant in view of these constituencies.
Joaquim Alemao met Patel along with his son Yuri, obviously for Sanguem ticket.
Ravi met Patel along with his son Roy, obviously for Mayem ticket.
Cumbarjua MLA Madkaikar claimed he had come to support Rudresh Chodankar as the NCP candidate.
Incidentally, Madkaikar has been still kept hanging by the Congress not declaring his candidature.
It was however not known why Rane duo – father and son – met Patel.
However, it appears that most of the veteran Congress leaders are trying to get their family members or their cronies in the Assembly through NCP.
