The final list of the Congress' aspirants for the March 3 Goa Assembly polls is likely to be out in the next couple of days as the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) today scanned the shortlisted candidates.
Goa state unit Congress president Subhash Shirodkar said the final list was likely to be announced in the next two days as the central committee went through the list of shortlisted candidates.
The CEC is headed by party president Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, Congress leaders from the coastal state rushed to Delhi today to attend the meeting of the central committee there.
Congress which is currently ruling the sunshine state in alliance with NCP is in talks with its partner to have a prepoll alliance.
According to sources, both the parties have reached an agreement over seat-sharing and the NCP is likely to get six seats.
Meanwhile, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), which was another coalition member in the Digambar Kamat government, has decided to opt out of any prepoll pact.
Sources said the MGP was in final stages of their talks with opposition BJP.
Congress had earlier announced to forge an alliance with MGP, which is the oldest regional outfit in the state, but thing did not work out, they said.
