Why U-turn on my candidature, asks Shripad
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 31 January 2012 22:10 IST

North Goa MP Shripad Naik wants to know why there was a sudden U-turn on the issue of his candidature in Assembly election.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s central leadership is expected to take a decision on various crucial issues, including this, on 3 February.
Shripad today returned from his Delhi visit, after meeting central leaders including L K Advani and BJP national president Nitin Gadkari.
Talking to media persons at the Dabolim air port, Shripad said he has sought explanation from the central leadership regarding him coming back to the local politics.
“I had not asked for it, the party had earlier decided that I should come back to local politics. I now want to know why there was a sudden U-turn”, he said.
While local party workers are demanding that Shripad should contest from Porvorim, the central leadership has reportedly told him to stick to Lok Sabha.
BJP national vice president Venkaiah Naidu, who was in Goa to attend the concluding rally of Jansampark Yatra, was also non-committal on the issue.
“Shripad Naik is a senior leader. The BJP has made him the MP. The BJP has made him the minister. The BJP would now decide what he should do”, he said, without elaboration.
“I will not take any such step that would damage the party. I have worked very hard to bring up this party in Goa”, Shripad told reporters while dismissing possibility of any kind of revolt.
When asked why he is not participating in the election campaign, he asked “where has the campaign started? It would begin only after 13th February.”
