Disgruntled Congressmen have now started joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, to become its candidates.
Former Mormugao municipal president Carlos Almeida joined the BJP.
He plans to contest from Vasco constituency as BJP’s former Vasco MLA Rajendra Arlekar would contest from Pernem, the constituency reserved for SC.
Almeida however claimed he has joined as a worker and not with a hope of getting ticket.
“I will do what my party tells me”, he added.
On the other hand, Adv Joaquim D’Souza from Nuvem joined the BJP with hundreds of workers.
D’Souza claimed that BJP is not a communal party but working to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
The function to admit them in the party was also attended by new entrant Matanhy Saldhana, besides party president Laxmikant Parsekar and other functionaries.

Different communities belonging to different religions and faiths, have been staying together peacefully and in complete communal harmony since pre-liberation era.We have never seen persons interfering in the religious affairs of others and it is good to see both the major communities coming together in Politics cutting across religion barriers...The common man fed up of corruption expects all this could result in a clean Govt, free from corruption , nepotism and continue projecting Goa as an ideal example of communal harmony and respect for each other--which are hard to see in other States of our Country....
