Mickky to quit NCP, takes over Goa Vikas Party

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 29 December 2011 20:16 IST

Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco is quitting the Nationalist Congress Party and joining the Goa Vikas Party in a couple of days.

He has taken over GVK, the party founded by late Sitaram Bandodkar in 1999. It is now headed by Mickky’s ‘wife’ Viola Pacheco.

Viola today announced that her party would contest all the 40 constituencies in Assembly election scheduled to be held on 3 March.

The GVK will also try and have an alliance with the regional parties, she claimed.

Lyndon Monteiro, Mickky’s close accomplice is the general secretary of the party.

While Mickky would cross swords in Nuvem with Congress MLA Alexio Sequeira, ZP member Nelly Rodrigues would contest from Cortalim while Menino Gaonkar from Curtorim.

Sitaram Bandodkar’s son Ramnath would continue as the vice president of the GVK.

His three more brothers – Sundar, Sarvesh and Gurunath – are the party’s executive members.

Vikas Prabhudesai is the treasurer.

Ravindra Jose Cabral and Antonio Crispino Sequeira are the two more executive members of the party.

Since the GVK has not been registered as a political party, they have now requested the election commission to allot them one of the two symbols – two candles or a vehicle.
