Police today filed First Information Report (FIR) against Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar of BJP, Congress legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and a few others in a case of alleged cheating and corruption.
They have been charged with cheating and corruption in clearing two major projects - beautification of a lake and construction of a market in Panaji city.
All accused are members of North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA), a State Government body which envisaged these projects.
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panaji on Monday had directed police to file an FIR in the twin projects which allegedly involve works worth Rs 60 crore.
Social activist Kashinath Shetye had moved the court alleging corruption and cheating while executing these projects.
He had named NGPDA chief Lourenco , Member-Secretary Ashok Desai, Parrikar (an ex-CM), and others in the complaint.
Shetye had approached Panaji police on July 7 with a complaint against the accused, which was not registered.
The projects had been opposed by the locals.
