Sitting Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik is tipped to be the MP once again.
The Congress leadership has cleared his name, along with three others at national level.
He will file his nomination tomorrow.
According to PTI news from New Delhi, political Secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, is among the four persons nominated by the party for the Rajya Sabha polls due later this month. He will contest from Gujarat.
The party has also nominated Pradeep Bhattacharya from West Bengal and party''s Maharashtra unit spokesperson Hussain Dalwai from that state.
A bypoll to the Rajya Sabha seat in Maharashtra was necessitated after Prithviraj Chavan became the Chief Minister of the state in November last year.
Besides Naik, Congress in Goa had sent two more names - former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro and Goa state Mahila Congress president Monica Dias.
In addition, former union law minister Ramakant Khalap and former BJP MP Ramakant Angle were also in the fray.
The BJP is yet to decide whether they would contest.
The opposition party is expected to take a decision tomorrow.
The deadline for the nomination is 12 July. Elections would be held on 22 July.
