CM assures protection to set up IT shops in controversial habitat

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today said the state government would consider giving protection to the IT companies willing to set up their shop in Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat near here.
Kamat made this statement on the floor of the House today after he was cornered by the Opposition benches on this controversial project, which was inaugurated by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar said that the IT companies were wary of starting their business at this park fearing attack by anti-social elements.
The reply tabled on the floor of the House reads that 14 companies have purchased plots here but none of them have began their work.
The CM said the state government will consider providing security to the IT firms, if they apply for the same.
Three years back, a mob led by Education Minister Atanasio Monserrate had forced the closure of this park.
Monserrate had claimed that real estate was being developed under the guise of IT habitat on this plateau situated at Dona Paula.
Monserrate supporters had even attacked Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (GPYCC) activists, who had led the 'morcha' demanding revival of this park.
