Tourist hotspot Goa recorded the highest per capita income among all States and Union Territories during 2009-10, while Bihar bagged the last spot, the Parliament was informed yesterday.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs Ashwini Kumar said that Goa topped the list with an annual per capita income (PCI) of Rs. 1,32,719 in the last fiscal.

It was followed by the Union Territory of Chandigarh at Rs. 1,20,912 and Delhi at Rs. 1,16,886.

In contrast, Bihar recorded the lowest PCI of Rs. 16,119 in the same period.

States such as Uttar Pradesh registered PCI of Rs. 23,132, Assam (Rs. 27,197) and Madhya Pradesh (Rs. 27,250).

Among other major States, Maharashtra recorded a PCI of Rs. 74,027, Tamil Nadu of Rs. 62,499 and Gujarat of Rs. 63,961.

The PCI data is based on the Advance Estimates of National Income released last month by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Meanwhile, national PCI, often used to measure a country’s standard of living, increased by 14.5 per cent during 2009-10 to Rs. 46,492.

“The per capita income at factor cost during 2008-09 and 2009-10 are estimated as Rs. 40,605 and Rs. 46,492, respectively, at current prices,” Statistics and Programme Implementation Minister M.S. Gill said yesterday.

Per capita income or income per person is the numerical quotient of income divided by population, in monetary terms. Population inversly propotional to Per Capita Income !!!!! 14.5lac is the population of Goa, Chandigarh 10.5lac, UP 19 Cr, Bihar 10 Cr, Maharashtra 11cr, T.N 7cr. Now you know how this works...simply dont conclude on anybody.

The Growth is due to illegal and destructive mining which brings the current politicians and their associates from outside Goa. Lot of Charas and rapes in Goa due to the arrival of the rapist as Goa is free for that and our own politicians have charisma. Lot of Casinos as one can invest the illegal wealth and play with the Goan people blood money ( mines and haftas) . Now the day has come that the fish auction is also run by the people not from Goa, this is oneof the oldest traditional buisness done by the Goans and now the half of it is run by the Kanada's, orissa and biharis.

No doubt , the Per capita Income of all the 40 MLA`s will most likely be 1000 times the average.

Top of the earners must be Churchill and Babush Monseratte and Mauvin Godniho..

The break up of the per capita income figures for Goa would definitely bring out so many interesting facts. How mush is the foreign remittance by NRIs, how much earning through tourism, how much earnings due to mining, how much through tourism and how much duo to salary from Govt. service etc....etc..

The figures of the annual money going to the Central coffers from Goa due to various taxes and the budgetary support Goa receives from the Central Govt. would also make interesting reading...
