Special staff to monitor illegal mining

After facing flack for shielding illegal mining in Goa, the state government has decided to specially appoint staff on each mining site to collect factual data on ore extraction.

In an action taken report on recommendations of Estimates Committee of the State Legislative Assembly, Goa government has said that they have already taken a decision to create some posts to check as well as monitor the quantity of ore that is being extracted from the mining leases.

Chief Minister Digamber Kamat has said the process of filing up these posts is in progress.

The action taken report was tabled on the floor of the House during ongoing State Legislative Assembly session which began on Monday.

The Estimates Committee has also recommended that an independent agency should be employed to check production andtransportation of ore.

The CM, however, has ruled out employing such agency.

Kamat has said that the general practice in all the states is that such checking of production and movement of minerals is done by the technical officers having the knowledge of identification of minerals.

Goa exports around 38 million MT of iron ore extractedfrom 100-odd mining leases scattered across the state.

Kamat stated that the Department of Mines periodically carries out inspections of mines to ascertain the efficacy of measures adopted by the mining lease holders to minimise the damage due to mining activity.

i have a doubt that is a person who is working in mines as a manager will have 4 house and 1 apartment.

i think Goa gold mine illegal department is not working well.

that means their are also taking part in illegal activities. So i pity you guys. not working in condition. because i am giving this statement because of the person who is just a sr.Manager cannot have this many properties in bangalore.as i sent he can only earn 1 lakh per month. how come he is having crores worth house .

hope this comment will reach the goa mine and verify the person who is having such many house and go for a ride.

Our Hon'ble CM Should rather first resign & than the Commetee or Staff may be Appointed by the Govt.

The STAFF /COMMITEE appointed by the ruling Govt Doesnot Have any meaning. he/she may be influenced by The Rulling Govt itself. As Evry body knows that Present Ministers & their Family itself have a Minning background.... i.e ILEGAL MINING Background.

The mining is the single most detrimental activity going on in Goa under blessings from the top ! The misery caused to the common man and his land due to mining will never be compensated !

The Chief Minister of Karnataka deserves all congratulations because he has banned all the mining activities in the State ---may be because of one or other reason ! Can the CM of Goa take such and action--to save Goa?

Any recruitment by Govt to keep a check on mining will never serve any purpose -going by the performance of such agencies in the past......unless it is an independent agency ! Such agencies would mean adding one more number to the number of white elephants which are so abundant in the Govt.........

These special mining expert/posts will circumvent the Dept. of Mines and become powerful entities over time, buttressed by the mining interests. What an idea, we are not going anywhere forward with this. It's like a quicksand, them ore you struggle the more you are in it.
