Narvekar offers to quit "if" Gen Body permits

Goa Cricket Association (GCA) President Dayanand Narvekar has offered to resign from the chair after he faces a police probe for allegedly forging birth certificates of his son, Ganeshraj, who represented Goa under 15 category cricket.

“I will put my resignation before (GCA’s) General Body. Let them decide on the issue,” Narvekar, who appeared to be on the backfoot after facing the inquiry told reporters on Monday.

GCA’s former executive member Shekhar Salkar had filed complaint of forgery against Narvekar, his wife Sushma, son Ganeshraj and two more persons alleging that they had faked the birth certificates to let Ganeshraj play thrice in U15 category representing Goa.

Narvekar claimed innonce about the existence of two birth certificates of his son. “This is a matter which should be investigated by BCCI and not by police,” he said adding that actions against him were politically motivated.

He said that his son was born on February 28, 1993 and said that he was not aware about his wife swearing another affidavit to register his birth at Mapusa municipal council at different date.

BCCI in past had fined Ganeshraj for Rs 5,000 taking cognizance of he playing three times under 15 category, once by registering his name as Anish N, which is his pet name.

Former GCA executive member Shekhar Salkar had lodged a complaint in November against Narvekar, on which police had registered FIR, last week.

Salkar on Saturday had demanded that Narvekar should step down as the GCA president. "Police should immediately arrest Narvekar as offences against him are of serious nature."

As per the complaint, Ganeshraj, after playing for two seasons - 2005-06 and 2006-07 - for the South Zone under-15 team, was allowed to play for the third time by changing his name.

The complainant has also attached documents, obtained under Right to Information Act, showing that Ganeshraj had two different birth certificates.

As per GCA record, his birth date is September 1, 1993, while the certificate procured from the local municipality shows his birthday as February 28, 1993.

The complaint also stated that Ganeshraj has given another birth certificate claiming his birth date as February 28, 1992 to get
admission in a school.

they are all puppets in his hands. What a shameless creature , a molester, corrupt politician, ticket-gate scammer, 420 manipulator and counting. I am sure, finally when he will be cornered and trapped he will use his 'caste' as a shield and incite his 'jaatbhais' in order to save him.
